topic:Parents are the best teachers

Who teaches you speak? Who teaches you walk? It is your parents who teach you to do these basic things in your life. So don’t you think that parents are the best teachers?

Firstly, our parents begin teaching us the moment we are born, and what they teach us in those early years are the most important things we can learn. They teach us what is important in our own culture and how to get along with other people. Of course, they teach us language and many other practical skills, and teach us how to be independent and how to learn as well.

Secondly, parents are always teaching us whether we realize it or not. They teach both in words and by example. In addition, our parents are devoted teachers who always want the best for us. Their only motivation for teaching us is to prepare us for a good life in the future. No one wants our success more than they do.

All in all, throughout our lives we will learn from many people, for there is something that we can learn from everyone we meet. However, no teacher can take the place of our parents because they are our most devoted and best teachers who have our best interests at heart.

Topic : When people move to another country, some of them decide to follow the customs of the new country. Others prefer to keep their own customs. Compare these two choices. Which one do you prefer? Support your answer with specific details.

Have you ever heard of the saying “Do in Rome as the Romans do”? Every country has its unique customs to distinguish with others. We should respect its character while we travel there, let alone we move there to be part of its members. Therefore, if I have the opportunity to move to another country, I will follow its customs, because I want to fit into the local society comfortably and respect the local customs. I will explain more about the reasons in the following paragraphs.

The first reason why I say that we should follow the customs of the new country we move in is that we want to fit into that society comfortably and don’t want other people to give you the elbow. For instance, when “foreigners” move to Taiwan, we, the local people, hope them understand our customs or culture instead of laughing at us. Take the worship as an example, when we worship we like to put the incenses into the dishes, which means inviting our ancestors to “enjoy” the dishes. This is our Taiwanese customs since ever. Any “foreigners” can’t laugh at it. All they can do is take it as what it is, respect it. Gradually, you will find yourself fit into this society comfortably instead of being miserable here in Taiwan.

Besides fitting into the local society comfortably, if we can respect the customs of the country we move in, we will find ourselves have the basic respect from the local people. For example, one time when I visited my friend in Japan, her mother cooked us “noodles.” Do you know you have to enjoy the noodles with a loud sound to show how delicious the noodles are when in Japan? That’s why I did. I “enjoyed” my noodles with an enormous sound, which is extremely rude in the States, in front of my friends’ family. Although you might think it’s weird, it did work. My friends told me I was praised by her family due to “enjoy” the noodles to show the respect of there culture though it’s a little too much. Anyway, I get the basic respect from the local people because I respect their customs first.

All in all, when moving to other counties I decide to fit into the local society comfortably and respect the local customs. When doing so, I think we will find ourselves happy in the land we move in, make friends freely, and will have the same respect in return.

## Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Television has destroyed communication among friends and family. Use specific reasons or examples to support your answer.##

Have you thought that television can help couple get married? Take my sister and her husband, my brother-in-law, as an example. When my brother-in-law chased my sister ten years ago, he almost came to my home to watch television with my mother, his mother-in-law, every night. Because my mother loved watching soap opera and at that time my sister did not like my brother very much, he intended to influence my sister through my mother. However, one year later, my sister married my brother-in-law because my mother told my sister that my brother-in-law was a nice man. Television indeed helps tie people together. Therefore, I do not agree that television has destroyed communication among friends and family. Television watching definitely gives people a common space to get together and gives people a common topic to talk about.

First of all, television ties people together. When you came home, the most crucial thing for you is to get along with your honey or your family members. All of you may gather in the living room, turn on the television, watch it and talk about the plot. Most people think television shows are full of violence and erotics and isolate people. However, it all depends on what programs you watch and whom you watch with. If you watch it with your family members, it really provides you with a good chance to communicate with them.

In addition to the fact that television ties people together, after watching television, you may have a common topic to talk with your friends anywhere and anytime. Many programs are informative, creative and inspiring. National geography channel, for example, broadens your horizons and you can share the knowledge from it with your friends. Love story shows urge you to communicate with your lover more often. No matter where you are, you may have a bunch of interesting stories coming from television programs to share.

In conclusion, as the example I mentioned in the first paragraph, television does not always do harm to us. It gives us more common space and topics to live among friends and family. Once you watch it with them, you will find your relationships with them become tighter. Therefore, television has not damaged communication among friends and family. On the contrary, it makes a harmonious and delightful relationship with them. [End]

TOPIC: Many students have to live with roommates while going to school or university. What are some of the important qualities of a good roommate? Use specific reasons and examples to explain why these qualities are important.

People often say that, a good neighbor is better than a brother far off. A nice roommate will be just like your relatives; however, a terrible roommate will be like a villain, you’ll never know when he/she is going to hurt you. I had a wonderful roommate while I studied abroad, which was lucky. There are two important qualities of her making me feel like she is a big help. They are sharing and helping.

First of all, sharing is a very important factor being someone’s roommate. No matter some housework and the feelings of ups and downs, it is always excellent that you can find somebody to share, particularly for students. Take me as an example, when I studied abroad, I got homesick and frustrated very often. I had a roommate from Korea who arrived three months earlier than me. She taught me how to get through these bad feelings and treated me like a sister. Amazingly, the moment I shared my bad feelings, I got released.

Another important quality being a good roommate is helping. You will never know when you need others’ help, so be willing to help other people is always good for yourself. When I studied abroad, I often ran out of some groceries without notice. There were several times, I was taking a shower, and found myself ran out of shampoo and soap. My kind roommate helped me a lot with this embarrassing situation, which I really appreciated. And I cooked breakfast for her every morning since she couldn’t wake up early. Helping each other is really helpful for us to get through all inconvenience.

In summary, willing to share and help is necessary when you live with other people. Cleaning the environment that you share, talking and listening to the feelings and helping each other, you will know how wonderful it is when you are nice to the people you live together. After all, being a roommate might be temporary, but being a good friend is forever.

People attend college for many different reasons. Why do you think people attend college or university?

With more and more expensive tuition to pay for college, why education is still desirable? Nowadays people choose to attend college or university for different reasons. First, students attend college for further study in the specific area which they are interested in. Second, degree is a basic requirement for a professional job. Third, students are not ready for the real world.

High school is a place giving students general education while college is a place directing students to gain further knowledge in specific field. After finishing general knowledge course in high school, students may attend college to increase knowledge according to each individual student’s interest. Therefore, before starting to work, students spend two to four year time to pursue their advanced study.

The second reason is that college education is essential element for people to gain a professional job. For example, a bachelor's degree is a minimum criterion for teachers, engineers and many other high salary jobs. Although a degree can not guarantee to a good job, it does help people to gain more chance for interview.

The third reason for people attend college is that students are not ready for the real world. Many people attend college because they don’t know what else to do after graduating from high school. Not being ready for the army nor the work, many young students decide to attend college to prevent from facing up the reality.

People attend college for many reasons. It can be positive or negative view. No matter what the reason is, we should do some thinking before making the decision.

Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Television has destroyed communication among friends and family. Use specific reasons or examples to support your answer.

I agree that television has destroyed communication among friends and family. Television shows are really an attractive program. Most people spend their leisure time watching TV program. Therefore, they do not have time to communicate with family or friends during watching Television.

In life you have many things to do. If you were a student, you need to study. If you were an employee in a company, you need to work. Therefore, we have seldom leisure time to accompany our family and friends. If you spend your precious leisure time on watching Television, you lose the time to communicate with family and friends.

In addition to, everyone has his or her own favorite program. During watching Television, you may have a little quarrel with your brothers or sisters. Maybe he or she do not like the program you watch and he or she wants to watch another program. Take me as an example, I always have different favorite channel with my sisters. Television not only makes us lose time to communicate, but also harm our relationship. I think it’s the same situation, if you live with your friends.

To sum up, Television really destroys communication among friends and family. Television take most time so people have seldom time to really communicate with friends and family. Different favorites make people easily have quarrel with friends and family. Those reasons are why I think Television destroyed the communication among friends and family.

Topic: How does television influence people’s behavior?

Nowadays, people have much more choices to watch their favorite programs after our government allows Wireless TV stations to be set up, and it causes TV stations’ fierce competition. TV stations put their conscience aside, they have only one goal ~ higher and higher audience ratings. It is common and normal that our TV programs are full of pornography, violence and gossip, and people get used to it. Variety shows and soap operas are always the topic of people’s talk.

First of all, when you turn on TV and surf the channels, you will find that there are a lot of violent plots, pornography on TV. Adults have the ability to filter or choose which program they can watch, but children don’t. What TV programs children watch influence their psychological development a lot, and children’s values will be mixed-up because they can’t judge what is good or what is bad. TV rating system has put into practice but the effect is not very good.

In addition, people have the great ability to imitate no matter you are an adult or a child. Take “pig head” for example, it originated from a host of a variety show. Now, it is one of the popular words. Many people like to say “pig head” when they angry at someone. Take the politicians for another example, when they have the different opinions, they always fight and quarrel with each other. Through TV broadcast, their violence can be seen throughout the world. Many people learn from the politicians, they like to use violence to solve the problems. It makes our society become more violent.

TV has the important function of entertainment, but TV should also teach us and give us useful information and knowledge. We have to strongly request our government to enforce the TV rating system strictly, and refuse to watch violent TV program and pornography.

Parents are the best teachers

Who teach you the most? If I get tons of responses, I believe "parents" must not be the only answers. Everyone would hold different views that vary with his distinctive background. In most situations, parents are expected to be best teachers in our lives. However, my own experience and some exceptional cases suggest that parents are not necessarily the best teachers.

The first reason for my view is that parents may not be good examples to children. Consider those whose parents are slackers, gamblers or even criminals. Parents such as those are more likely to influence their children in a negative way. What can we expect them to be good teachers? Not to mention the “best teachers”! Take my own case to illustrate, I do not think my parents are my best teachers. This is not to deny that they do teach me a lot of things. However, the one who influenced me the most is a teacher when I was at elementary school. Concerning that my parents are poor-educated and didn’t really know how to teach and understand their children, the teacher instead showed me the way to help myself and to be a good kid.

In addition, whether one is seen as a best teacher really depends on individual perception. For example, a devoted Christian might deem The Almighty as his best teacher; for an obedient athlete, his best teacher could be the coach or his team players; an excellent scientist can learn the most from his professor at college. My cousin, a prodigal son, once told me his best teacher is a church preacher who led him to the right way. Indeed, one can view anyone as his best teacher: someone who inspire him, who encourage him, or even who help him.

In sum, although parents are supposed to teach their children well, parents might not. On the other hand, since everyone holds different opinions, it is too arbitrary to generalize that “parents are the best teachers”. /

Is it better to enjoy your money when you earn it or is it better to save your money for some time in the future? Use reasons and specific examples to support your opinion.

What are you going to do in your sixties? Traveling around the world or striving to earn a living? One of my ex-colleagues, who already reaches the age of retirement, usually says that he should have saved some money while he was still young. If so, he could use his later half of life to pursue his dreams instead of working with such a senile and fatigued body. From my point of view, it is better to save money for future life because future is unpredictable and people are rarely able to keep their productivity when old.

First of all, one never knows when he or she will need money. Life is a series of accidents. It’s difficult to tell what is going to happen the next second. Hence, if a person spends every single cent upon earning, he or she must definitely face a situation when no money is available in urgent conditions. In 921 Earthquake, lots of victims suddenly lost their families, and their houses collapsed as well. Without money, these poor people could not reconstruct their hometown. If they did save parts of the money they earned, it will not be so painful for them to restart their lives. Therefore, saving money is a wise method for the preparation of various uncertainties in life.

Another reason why I suggest to lay aside parts of what is gained for some time in the future is because everyone of us grows older, sooner or later. It is much easier for young people to make money due to the fact that young people have better mental and physical condition. Generally speaking, people’s health ages or deteriorates gradually while getting older. Besides, only few bosses are willing to hire grey-haired employees. Thus, do not be too confident that you still have the ability to make a living when you are old.

In conclusion, people who save money for future life not only take excellent use of the present, but also make appointments with better tomorrows. If everyone could make it a habit to save up some of the earnings daily, there will be no poor on the earth and our world will become happier and more wonderful.

Do you agree or disagree with the following statement?
Parents or other adult relatives should make important decisions for their older (15-18 years old) teenaged children. Use specific reasons and examples to support your opinion.

I believe only when a child faces his problem, he will grow up. Therefore, I disagree with parents or other adult relatives make important decisions for their older teenaged children. I have two reasons on it.

First, we admit that parents have more life experience, knowledge, and judgment than their kids; however, parents can not substitute experiencing their children’s life. For teenaged children, they have already had the general sense to judge what they can do and what they cannot do. They should be responsible for themselves, even when they must make a crucial decision. If parents always think that their children are kids, they can not burden the consequence- maybe bad or wrong; as a result, their children will never become mature. Their children will never have the chance to learn something from the errors.

Second, parents may possibly not really understand what their teenaged children’s need and thought. It may hurt the relationship between parents and children and get nothing beneficial on it. For example, we may have learned the case like that- the parents ask their son/daughter learn Business instead of Literature, their child’s favorite course, because they believe being a businessman will be easier to earn money than being a writer. However, do parents do the right thing? What may be the outcome? It is very possible for this kind of parents who get a docile child; however, they also lose a happy child.

In my opinion, parent should play a role of advisor - they can participate in their life, but not decide their future or shoulder all the responsibility. Parents should be aware of the fact that their children during this age is preparing to become an adult, however, not always a kid like before. Therefore, parents should not deprive their chance of growing up.

Topic:Which would you buy? A piece of jewelry or tickets to a concert you want to attend.

Two things for you to choose if you get a big gift of money; attending a concert which you always desire to go, or, buying a piece of jewelry which you always desire to put it onto your collection list. I have no idea what you choose, but the trouble of protection and the inability to share ones happiness with others are the reason that I would rather go for a play.

A piece of jewelry needs a perfect place to store; in the other words, the storage of the jewelry will cause you a lot of troubles. JoJo, one of my classmates, who spent a two-month salary to get a ring from Tiffany & Co. In order to reduce the times of arguments, she did not want her husband to see the ring. Day after day, she always has to come up with the new places to hide this ring. Believe or not, the trouble of hiding the ring almost drives her crazy.

The story of JoJo’s ring also tells me that JoJo’s inability to show the ring to her friends. The reason is that almost everyone JoJo knows that knows her husband, and their friends will certainly not keep the secret for JoJo. Under this circumstance, JoJo cannot share this happiness to her friends. Day after day, the inability of sharing the ring of her happiness almost drives her crazy as well.

Now, whenever I see an attractive piece of jewelry, it always reminds me that DO NOT buy it. Because JoJo’s story has already made me to pick up a ticket of great concert that I always desire to go instead.

Have you ever lived in a neighborhood where there were gangsters and prostitutes around? I did - my hometown, the Third Alley of Taipei, was just like that. Therefore, if I could changed anything about my hometown, I would definately change some of my neighbors basing on the safty and discrimmination aspects.

First of all, it is not deniable of feeling threatened by living in a neighborhood of rascals. Actually, my father was attacked by leaving a knife-cut scar on his neck which almost deepened into the throat. It was just because of a careless joking of mentioning the father of a rascal. I would never forget that night - a screaming phone call from the police and the rushing into the hospital emergency at midnight. As a result, I would changed some of my neighbors for secure considering.

The second reason for changing my neighbors is relating to discrimmination problem. Why? Living in the famous prostitution area of Taipei, I always had to face the blue look from others while telling my hometown. People thought that you might not be good girls or students becuase you live in a location full of sensual pleasures. Therefore, I often argued with them for defensing myself and also my family for the unfair discrimmination. My parents are dicent people of integrity and I do not accept any disdain on them.

Although I love my hometown no matter what it had been, I somehow would change few of my neighbors if I could. In that, my father would not have experienced a hard time. In that, my new classmates would not have had a strange look on me. Lastly, in that, I would have had a better hometown which I am building up for my next generation.

The core value of a successful company

Although there are so many companies setting up one by one all the time in every country of the world. However, only few ones may exist for a couple of years, or even longer. Some are disappear, as far as we know, for maybe a couple of month, even worse, a couple of day. Many people may ask why there are few companies that can exist for such a long time, and how they can manage it so well, and what is the core value of a successful company. I am personally interested in the above-mentioned questions; meanwhile, they also can be discussed as follows:
First of all, what is the definition of a successful company? The answers that are various still exist in every aspect. From my perspective; however, I would say no successful company could operate well and last for more than maybe a century without cherishing their employees, and that’s why I regard it as the core value of a successful company. A successful company must believe in the value of each employee. Not only is this essential, but it has to be such a part of the core values of the company that every effort is made to empower each and every employee to contribute in the realization of the goals of the company and the execution of its values. Secondly, In order to satisfy any customer, especially for their loyal ones, a company must continually focus on maximum quality effort. Without doing so, the company will not maintain a mutually beneficial relationship with their customers, and its reputation also could be ruined in the nearest future. Thirdly, the last but not the least, continuous improvement is almost could be the important principle of a successful company, and it must be a key component in the core values of a company. If you believe in continuous improvement and all of your suppliers share the same commitment, then your company will survive. Only those companies, which can continually innovate and renovate, can be last for a long time.
In short, the last point to be stressed here is that, no matter what and how much investment companies have made in their marketing or human resources, the high-quality products have also to be created not only for their loyal customers, but also for anyone who is willing to buy their products, and I think that’s the another core value of a successful company. After all making money is essential for their success, and that is why they have gone into a company— to make money.

Topic:Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? The most important aspect of a job is the money a person earns. Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.

There is no doubt that people need a job to earn their living. However, does earning money become the most important aspect of a job? Personally, I do not think so. I believe the most significant aspects that jobs bring to us are the senses of pleasure and accomplishment. Pleasure from jobs gives people the energy to complete the tasks and challenges. Accomplishment is the positive appreciation received from your supervisors, coworkers, and yourself, which makes you become valuable in your life and job.

Pleasure is the precondition of keeping energetic and delightful to fulfill any objectives. A good pay job without pleasure will drain people of their energy and happiness in working. On the other hand, pleasure from a job can make people always maintain a delightful mood to deal with any tasks or challenges. Therefore, a job with pleasure is much better than a job only with a good salary.

In addition to pleasure aspect from a job, accomplishment is the motivation to achieve any objectives. My aunt is a good example. When she graduated from the university, she first entered a high-reputable technology company where she not only earned a good salary but also gained an excellent bonus. However, she did not feel the sense of accomplishment from her high pay job. After a complete consideration, she decided to quit her good pay job and entered an elementary school to be a teacher. She always told us that money is not the most important concern of a job; on the other hand, the smile, the warmth, and the progress from her students are her great accomplishment that cannot be substituted for money.

In conclusion, money is not the most important aspect of a job; however, the senses of pleasure and accomplishment are the most significant concerns of a job. Because pleasure makes people always keep energetic and cheerful mood to deal with the tasks and challenges. Most of all, the sense of accomplishment makes people valuable and estimable in job.

Reading fictions is more enjoyable than watching movies?

Have you ever finished reading a novel with full enjoyment, and later watched it on the screen when it became available then found yourself submerged by great disappointment? This experience has occurred to me many times already, especially with the fiction series of “Harry Potter” by J. K. Rowling. It was really enjoyable and exciting when I read the books of Harry Potter; however, my enjoyment and excitement got lost when I saw these fiction stories being turned into acts on big screen. Since this experience, I do really find reading fiction novels is far more enjoyable than watching them on big screen because reading is a great activity that does not only allow you to stimulate your imagination but also provides you with the adaptability of time and location management.

First of all, reading through the sentences word by word stimulates your imagination to run freely. Though the author may set some certain scenes, background and characters for his/her book, there is some space that allows readers to create themselves with subtle differences. For example, the characters of Harry Potter, Ron Weasley and Albus Dumbledore in Harry Potter that I imagined when I read the books were less delicate in their looks, while those bad guys like Draco Malfoy and Professor Snape were more rough and rigid. The larger contrast between the good and the evil had made the conflict more vivid; however, the degree of conflict is reduced a lot to me when this fiction was put into big screen so watching it on movie is not that exciting and enjoyable anymore. Reading fiction is indeed more fun because it provides you with the chance to use your imagination to create your own story by the help of the main scenes set by the author, instead of following the visual images displayed on the big screen.

In addition to stimulate imagination to run freely, reading fiction allows better time management because you may read through the story whenever and wherever you like. When you read a book, you are the host who does not only decide when you want the play to start, pause or stop, but also decide where you want your play to be shown. In another word, you get a total control of your time. However, watching movie requires queuing up for tickets, and by the time you get the tickets, you have got to wait for the movie to start then finish your movie sharp at a certain time. For example, it took me about 40 minutes to line up for ticket purchase when I went to see Harry Potter in the movie theater and there was another 30 minutes wait before the movie started. By the time I finished my movie, one half day was almost gone and I had to rush back home for family dinner. Unlike reading fiction whenever and wherever you like, watching movies involves with a lot of time-wasting before you can get to the main event.

In summary, reading fiction is more enjoyable than watching movie because it allows you to be creative and let your imagination run. Your perception to a story will be more vivid if you wander through the sentence word by word. In addition, reading fiction is more hassle free. You may read whenever and wherever you desire, which does not waste any of your time before getting to the main event. The book 6 of Harry Potter – Harry Potter and The Half-Blood Prince – has just been released, why don’t you make an experiment and start reading this book then see the movie when it becomes available? You will find reading is indeed more imaginative and enjoyable.

Business should not do anything they can to make a profit

When the boss says “Get it done at any cost!”, do you sum up the real cost it would take? Would the profit be enough to cover the expense? How do you like the bill to be charged on your account? If you have any hesitation in answering my questions, you have agreed that business should be supervised no activities nor processes are beyond the regulation, so that they do not make profit with money in people’s pocket.

First of all, any business would risk or affect people’s life should be prohibited. The huge amount of trashes and garbage have always a headache to the industries and hospitals, they often hired those so called environmental technology companies who claimed they would dispose the industrial and medical trashes in professional procedures to process their garbage. The problem did not get to people’s attention until the contaminants were found dumped in the mountains or along the rivers, we notice the risk of pollution to the reservoir and then drink water. If there were no environmental law to restrict the operation of garbage disposal, we would soon have no clean land to live at just because these company ran the business at free of cost for their own maximum profit.

Another reason why the business should be supervised is that all common people’s investment to the companies would be free from frauds or cheats. We are never short of examples that some direct sale companies cheated in collecting the funds and abused their right in wrongly using the investors’ money. A lot of elderly and house wives lost all their money to those companies and resulted many problems for the whole society to shoulder. I respect business making profit from their intelligence and technology but no business should make profit from cheating.

To sum up, it is always the positive motivation driving people to trade for a good profit by working hard and smart. All businesses are established to make profit which is the major challenge to those business owners. However, there’s still the play rule for the game to follow, because we are in the world shared by a big group of people, and the people’s safety, security and life can not be ignored. That is why the business shouldn’t do anything just in order to make a profit.

3. A similar writing I grabbed from internet.
Please kindly comment on them.

Sometime the external appearances is really a matter, especially in some occasions, such as a job-wanted interview, a blind date, or even in a shopping. Of course, it is a standard public perspective “Don’t judge a person by external appearance”, but you have to admit that most people really did. Herewith some so-called “occasions” to tell you the real situations.

Generally. Everybody had the experience to interview, no matter you were a host or a interviewer. At the beginning, before you present yourself, your looking impress the opponent already which including whether you dress neat or not? Are you a gook looking? Are you look smart? or dummy, then your resume. By the way, in some business, this phenomenon is outstanding.

As the pace of city life moving faster and faster, there is no time for most of the people to fall in love. The most popular way to look for love is match making activities. It might be a company to company activity, a relative.

2.
Frankly speaking, I do agree that the external appearance is really a matter indeed. Although that might not meet the moral standard of the present society. However you have to admit that it is common people judge people by the external appearance in many occasions. Herewith some so-called “occasions” as below to support my theory.

First of all, I think most of people have the experience of a job wanted interview. The first impression to come across the interviewer before you present yourself is your appearance. How can you proving yourself a capable person in a sluggish looking or an overweight shape? For example, I would not count on a person who could not spare 10 minutes to take her or his hair or dress. At least a neat looking means a person really takes the job seriously.

In addition to that, some profession need good looking people, such as fashion models, fly attendants or other entertainment business and so on. They are good at promoting the merchandize and amusing public. By their pretty appearance, they have created a lot of business and made the world better.

In conclusion, I am not trying to inspire people to become a super model or a movie star. After all, a good looking or not is determined by God. However, we can maintain the rest to show our confidence and capability. There is no ugly woman but a lazy woman. According to my experience, I can judge people by their external appearance precisely. Can you?

3.
When we get along with someone, especially for the first time, it’s quite natural for us to put judgment on him/her, drawing a brief conclusion about the person’s personalities、abilities as well as other features. However, I personally agree that we should avoid judging a person by his/her external appearance, with the reasoning below.
First of all, external appearance can not represent a person with complete accuracy. As social creatures, human beings are complex and multidimensional. External appearance are only part of a human being, giving others impression of what he/she looks like. When we judge a person, it’s more important for us to know his/her personalities、abilities and other internal features. All these can hardly be reflected by a person’s appearances, which he/she can never choose, but by what he/she thinks and how he/she behaves. Then, with a view to knowing a person’s thought and behavior, we need to get along with him/her longer and further.
In the second place, judging a person by his/ her external appearances implies disrespect and offense. As stated above, external appearances are god-given, and a person can never choose what he/she looks like. All people are just equal, regardless of how their resemblance differs. It’s not fair to set external appearances as a criteria of judging a person. Doing so can’t do anything good to interpersonal relations, but generate misunderstandings and conflicts.
Apart from the unwarranties of judging a person by external appearances we can also cite many great figures, who are not good in appearances, but desire others’ admiration and honor: Deng xiaopin, Winston Churchill, Professor Hawkings, etc. From these examples, we find that bad external appearances can never hamper a person to distinguish himself.
All in all, never be reckless to judge a person by external appearances, or you’ll be judged no good by others in return.

Why do people visit museums as traveling to new places? It reminds me of visiting MOMA in my last overseas-trip to New York. The reason that people always visit museums as traveling to new places is that the museum often is a symbol also a scenic spot in that city that people will never forget, and also people could have a thrilling experience as visiting a museum.
The first thing I would like to say is that the big cities through the world, all have at least one famous museum which becomes a landmark of that city. For example, the Louvre Museum in Paris, the British Museum in London, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, these museums have become spots of the cities and visitors coming from non-local places will never lose an opportunity to see the displays in them.
Second of all, the displays in most of the museums are novel things to all visitors, especially for those coming from other places, and people will never have a chance to experience what they have seen in the museum to their daily life. For instance, if we would like to see Van Gogh’s “Starry Night,” you have to go to MOMA in New York; there is no other “Starry Night” in the world. Moreover, people will see how a rocket to be launched in a space museum, but few people could be an astronaut. The museum provides us with an exciting experience that we could have in his daily life and city.
The last of all, the most important function in a museum is the education. The museum teaches us many things with different aspects, and it depends on what kind of knowledge the museum will teach us. From culture to science, from living stuff to unusual things, the museums provide us with many kinds of knowledge. People could learn more through a short visiting, and they will never forget what they have seen in a museum by themselves. Visiting museums is a best way to acquire new knowledge.
In short, the museums open a window for visitors to experience and understand what they cannot have in their daily lifes and in their cities. However, the most important thing is that you did get something from visiting museums, no matter you are a pilgrim or an onlooker, at least you could speak loudly to others that “I have been to that city.”

Paparents are the best teachers

I totally agree that parents are the best teachers to their child. Child is innocent; s/he learned everything from parents who are the most intimate person to her/him. Take my nephew for example, he spoke what his parents taught him, he imitated every word, every action from his parents during the period of his growing up, because to him the most reliable person is parents. I believe that parents are the most important roles who influent a child’s thinking, personality development and attitude to future life.

First of all, child is as pure as a white paper s/he has nothing in his mind at the beginning of life. S/he learned what parents taught and act, just like a sponge; s/he absorbs everything s/he heard and seen and kept them all in conscious or subconscious during growing up. That’s why we can see some children are so similar to their parents, just like products from the same tool mould.

Another reason why parents are the best teachers is that a child needs guidance and instruction before they can independent thinking. At the beginning of life, parents are the most imitate person to a child and they play a very important role to a child’s world, therefore, parent’s teaching and instruction has become a very important factor to the child’s development because s/he totally trust on parents and take it serious on what they said.

To sum up, a child’s personality is almost forming under parent’s influence. Parents affect children’s thinking, behavior, attitude to life. Therefore, as parents, one must carefully examine one’s talking, behavior, manner in order not to leave a bad example to child. If everyone pay attention on the development of a child’s personality, thinking, attitude, I believe, every child would grow up happily and healthily under parent’s asylum and will lead to a wonderful future life.

A university plans to develop a new research center in your country. Some people want a center for business research. Other people want a center for search in agriculture (farming). Which of these two kinds of research centers do you recommend for your country? Use specific reasons in your recommendation.

Developments in all aspects are fairly vital to my country, because it is a competitive age nowadays. But in my country I still consider that a center of agriculture is superior to a center for business.

To being with, the reason why I think my country needs to develop an agriculture center is by virtue of cultural condition and environmental advantage, because my country is always greatly in renovation of agricultural technique. For that reason, a center to facilitate the development of agriculture somehow directly promotes citizens’ abilities in the world.

Secondly, there are so many artificial foods and unnatural meals in our daily life, whereas we probably do not know where they come from, and how they are being sowed. Therefore, with an agricultural center, people in my country can learn more about the areas of farming, acquire some basic knowledge of vegetation, and avoid stalking of unhealthy food.

In conclusion, my country has occupied by too many skyscrapers and high buildings so far and there are many different business centers under each school or company, thus it is time for us to accept a new and educational center that focus on agronomy.

Topic: People attend college for many reasons (for example, new experience, career preparation, increased knowledge.) why do you think people attend college or university? Use specific reasons or examples to support your answer.
As you know that most of great founder of a religion can attract a group of disciples to learn their doctrine together, like Buddhism or Christianity, so their lesson can keep for thousands year. The system of college is keeping the same spirit of group leaning, and it can prove the greatest benefits for student. Let us discuss more in education resource and learning motivate at following context.
First of all, our country can put or focus its education resource into college. With resource, college can maintain a good environment that can attract good professors to devote their study. By this way the students can enjoy learning with good mentoring. Take me for example; I have studied English by myself for several years before I came to NTUST. It was hard for me to make any progress in oral communication and writing. Now, after the coaching for professors, I can realize where it is wrong and how to improve.
Moreover, you can meet a lot of people with the same tendency and imitate the method of study with each others. Some time you will compete with each other. There is a peer pressure between you and force you to learn wider and deeper. When I saw Miss Echo is so great in oral speaking. I must work harder to catch with her.
Finally, college can provide good environment for study, and forge qualified personnel to devoid their ability to create more benefits for our country. Then our country can provide more resource into college again, by thus way, our world will become better and better!

Is it a good way to learn English by English Newspaper?

English Newspaper is a good tool to learn English, if you want to touch various fields in English. There are many sections in Newspaper, such as top news, editorials, commentary, even science and technology. Just like teacher says “Newspaper is like a small encyclopedia and inclusive of everything!”

My first reason to agree newspaper is a good tool to learn English is that Newspaper records everyday life. If we want to learn a foreign as well as English, we need to know how people those who live in foreign country use English in their daily life. How to describe things that around us? Which vocabulary is suitable for this situation? Newspaper is just like a daily dictionary for us to look up the words.

Second, through newspaper, we can know how foreign people look at things, and their main stream value in the society. Understand foreign culture is a good step to learn foreign language because language is related to the culture. Furthermore, there are interesting thing in the newspaper, funny comics. Therefore, I believe newspaper is a good tool to learn foreign language, such as English.

One more important thing is that choosing newspaper carefully. One had better pick up newspaper from big newspaper offices. For example, USA Today, New York Times… in order to keep the quality of newspaper. Newspaper is a good way to learn English, just pick the right one to read!

Most of people’s virgin experiences are shared with parents, the first word coming from the mouth, the first birthday party, the first camp, and so on. It is also our parents that initially teach us to do this and not to do that. However, are the first teacher, our parents, equal to the best teacher? To answer this question, some may say yes, but I don’t think the parents are the best teacher to their children, because what parent’s say would lose the influence when children grows up and parents are unlikely to know everything to teach their children.

First of all, as the passage of time, peer pressure is getting bigger and bigger. Listening to parents’ instruction is not a cool thing for teenagers. When I was a teenager, dying hair or piercing ears were forbidden by my mother. Despite the opposition, I had my hair dyed and ears pierced. In order to gain more attention, I ignored my parent’s advice. Therefore, parents are unable to be the best teacher.

In addition to being reluctant to abide by parents’ chatter, the knowledge of parents is limited. They cannot teach everything which their children ask for. Although many thank-you speeches of tournament winners express gratitude for their parents, they don’t appreciate what parents taught, but parent’s support. During the depression, we will complain to our parents, and parents are willing to listen to your grievance and point out a new direction to you. Parents, I think, are more like a listener and adviser than a teacher.

Parents play many roles in our life, but the function of a teacher is not the most important part. However, we can still have much support and encourage from our parents. They don’t need to be the best teacher, but the closet friend.//

Topic: Nowadays, food has become easier to prepare. Has this change improved the way people live? Use specific rasons or examples to support your answer.

Have you ever seen a delghted tableau consisting of a happy family enjoying their meal, sharing dishes and chatting at a table? In the ever-cahaning and competitive society, most people would choose fast food or easily-prepared food to save more time which taken from the scene. When foodstuff becomes more and more advanced as the steps human beings forwarded, the culture and meaning behind the food itself just remain important and could not be replaced. I don’t agree easier-prepared food improved the way people live when it comes to the deeper level of human life. Following, I will discuss what food stands for people beyond the physical satisfaction it offers from the cultural and psychological aspects.

Firstly, from the cultural aspect, we all have somehow the similar impression or experience associated food with specific spots. For example, when Italy is mentioned, the food jump into our mind should be pizza (or pasta), Germany, beer (or sausage), Japan, sashmi (or sushi) and so on. One may draw a plan of touring around hundreds of countries which have splendid architecture, paintings, beautiful language and charming people around the world. If there were no delicious or exotic food connects all those characteristics together, the appeal for travelers will be reduced because it lacks the human and cultural atmosphere poured in. That is why we observe that people eat in different countries even small areas of them reveal particular, actual life styles vividly.

Secondly, from the psychological aspect, we can see human beings pursue higher rank of satisfaction as they evolved. In primitive times or poor countries, people might fulfill the desire for food just to fit the basic need as being creatures. However, when time goes by and progress keeps advancing, people regard family as more important role and food being served from the kitchen at one’s home stands more than the superficial motions. That people spend more time preparing food for their family makes them get more happniess and joy. Inside one's heart, it is what the significant strength which can not be found or replaced from the saved time or simpler procedure of easier-prepared food.

To sum up, I don’t agree fast or easier-prepared food improved the way people live because they deprived the cultural and psychological meanings from human life. To promote the spiritual part of human beings, I agree with the slow-food activity which has been supported for many countries. Slow down and taste food, enjoy food as well as share the feelings it brought about would make one's heart more intact and better one's life.

From my point of view, I totally agree that parents are the best teachers. Before children enter school or children attend school already, Parents are kind of the best teachers. Here are my reasons.

First of all, from the moment everyone came to the world, parents are those who cherish their children most and provide their children ther unselfish love. Almost most part of one’s character is cultivated in the childhood, the period parents cast the most influence on children. Thus, the ability to absorb knowledge before children attending school most account on parents.

In addition to the concept mentioned in the first paragraph, even children are old enough to go to school, parents still play the very important roles as teachers. The school teachers only help children part of the school study, the positive development of children’s personality and the mental support are most based on partents efforts. Furthermore, in school teachers have to handle tens of students at the same time; how to maintain a good learing environment for each student is also important. Parents thus can play the roles of teachers to complement the shortage.

In conlusion, although parents are not the real teachers like those we generally regarded as teachers, the roles parents play are no less important than the school teacher do. Parents not only teach children the knowledge from books, but also provide their care in children’s daily life. Thus, I think parents are the best teachers for children.
